Samsung's Galaxy S7 is likely to be brought forward for a January release, so we are now seeing leaks on an almost daily basis and the latest predicts superior audio to what we've seen in the Galaxy range before.
A new report out of Korea suggests Samsung is readying the SABRE 9018AQ2M chip from ESS Technology that brings with it the best audio seen in a smartphone.
The chip features a a 32-bit mobile audio DAC, has 129 dB signal to noise ratio and supports formats such as DSD - the super audio format favoured by Sony. This means you'll get an as-near-to-dammit listening experience as listening to analogue, but while streaming audio over the internet.
Top-quality streaming
Samsung's Galaxy range has not been well known for strong audio technology so it's interesting to see the company up its game. HTC's flagship One range has proved to be the king of smartphone audio with its BoomSound speakers that are usually cited as the best front-facing speakers on the market.Rumours have also been growing that Samsung is looking to buy Jay-Z's struggling streaming service Tidal.
Tidal has a much bigger focus on high-quality audio than alternatives such as Spotify, so it'd make sense if the latest Galaxy phone has the ability to stream in the best quality possible.
Throwing a Tidal streaming subscription into the mix with one of the best flagship phones available may be what the struggling service needs. And it needs to do something with tough competition from Apple Music and Spotify.
